Rather than shoot down the aisle during the procession, I prefer to stay behind the scenes as the wedding party lines up. The feeling of anticipation is so rich as everyone prepares to walk down the aisle. It’s especially tender with the bride and her father.
Over the weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Ben and Catherine’s wedding at the Green Building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. In January the weather is a bit of a gamble but we lucked out with a cold but clear day. The light was fantastic but I had to work fast with the outdoor portraits because Ben and Catherine were getting chilly. Even with the quick jaunt outside, I’m really happy with the photos that we got.
At Blue Hill at Stone Barns the couple enters into the ceremony through the kitchen while cheered on by all the chefs and kitchen staff.
Somewhere along the way I learned that as a wedding photographer I didn’t always need to keep myself out of the picture. Yes that is my hand in the foreground and yes I did drink that shot of tequila at 11am. In the center is Brian Leahy, the groom and keeper of the excellent blog The Groom Says. A year earlier I did engagement portraits around Brooklyn with Brian and his now-wife Joanna so when I showed up at Pacifico on Smith Street in Boerum Hill, we were able to get right down to business.
